Samina & Sophiya Khan
Heritage. Handcrafted. Couture.
Samina & Sophiya Khan is a Kashmir-based design house that preserves the valley’s hand embroidery traditions while reimagining them with Indian weaves and modern silhouettes.
Our Journey
Founded in 1996 by Samina Khan, the label began as one of Kashmir’s first couture houses. Through her pioneering exhibitions, she introduced Kashmiri women to diverse Indian embroideries, textiles, and silhouettes, creating a new design vocabulary for the region. Today, she is celebrated as a leading Kashmiri entrepreneur in couture and heirloom fashion.
In 2016, her daughter Sophiya Khan joined her in this journey. Together, they bridge generations — reviving Kashmiri hand embroideries and pure fabrics while reimagining them in contemporary silhouettes that resonate with the modern world.
Our Philosophy
Every ensemble by Samina & Sophiya Khan is a dialogue between heritage and modernity. By combining Kashmiri craftsmanship with India’s finest weaves, the brand creates couture that is timeless yet relevant, rooted yet forward-looking.
Their vision is to preserve traditions not as relics of the past, but as living art that can be cherished for generations.
Craft & Process
Art of Tilla
At the core of the brand is Tilla — Kashmir’s most iconic embroidery, crafted in fine gold and silver threads. Each motif is embroidered by hand, requiring immense precision and expertise, a technique passed down through generations of Kashmiri artisans. Traditionally used in phirans and ceremonial attire, Tilla continues to be the brand’s signature. At Samina & Sophiya Khan, it is preserved in its authenticity yet adapted into new forms, making it both historic and contemporary.
Fusion of Textiles
The label’s design language is built on a unique dialogue: Kashmiri embroidery paired with India’s diverse fabrics. Banarasi silks, Jamdani weaves, Patola patterns, and Muga silks are brought together with Kashmiri Tilla to create couture that celebrates India’s rich textile heritage. This fusion ensures that every piece carries the essence of Kashmir while embracing the vibrance of Indian craft traditions.
